Reflections on my first real nursing week. Three 12 hour shifts in a row. I am loving it... the hospital, the patients, the coworkers, all of it. Of course, I only have two patients right now. Let's see how I sound when I ramp up to seven. (Leeloo makes an amusing guest appearance)

No matter how many patients you have, there will never be time enough to meet all their needs.

People were designed to meet their OWN needs, so when they get sick and cannot do this themselves it takes a team of doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, OT and PT people, nurse assistants, case managers, floor secretaries, managers, and any number of residents and specialists to attend to their needs.

All to replace/supplement the functioning of the person themself.

Think of the cost. Dozens of medical specialists called in just to maintain a person's ability to perform their own activities of daily living.

We're talking billions of dollars here.

Oh well.
