Arrrrgh! I can't load ANYTHING down here! I'll be sure to watch this when I get home. I'm jealous you got a NICU rotation.
Wow, I can remember when I had my rotation, it was very nice, and i liked it so much. What great staff there was. Sorry about medical stuff going on. One of my friends, when she started nursing school, her father was diagnosed with cancer, she almost dropped school, but somehow is managing. (she is in 3rd semester)
Good to see your video post!
You must go over to Emergiblog and click on "Geek Nurse" under the nursing links. He does NICU in Australia and has fantastic pics of the machines and tubes. I'm learn so much from him.
Getting a NICU experience in school is something else - things have sure changed!
Finally home! Got thrust into 5 shifts at work in 6 days. I'm on shift #3-- so I'm a little fuzzy around the edges.
I think maintinaing "perspective" is a good point. I'm not certain I coulld handle medical issues in my home life AND then get to work and perform effectively. It hasn't really happened yet, so I'm not sure. I hope that I could be strong.
I'm glad you enjoyed the NNICU! I find it fascinating there--but the fragility of the babes and the ethical issues I struggle with concerning those micro-preemies combined with all that technology keeps me out of there. It is an amazing place, though. NNICU nurses have my utmost, highest super respect along with hospice, ER, and oncology nurses. Very, very special people.
I hope things are smoothing out (or simply stabilizing) for you...
