Oma and Moni visit Uncle Jerry

Watch the video
My grandmother ("Oma") and I (Moni to my closest friends and family) went to visit my Uncle Jerry's (Jurgen) resting place last week. Shot this video. This cemetery is in New Paltz where he lived for many years. We both miss him very much. I have been thinking about him a lot lately.

It's a lovely resting place, and it was nice that you got to go on such a clear, bright day. Your Oma looks as if she is wondering why you are filming the visit. Thanks for sharing something so very personal.

I'm not sure why, but this post did not show up in FireAnt when I refreshed my channels. I came to the sire directly...

Very peaceful. Serene. There's an open space in the piece -- like the space Uncle Jerry probably left in your life. I believe spirit never dies so I think he's glad you're thinking of him.

Why is it in America that we find so little time to reflect on people who've passed on and made such a difference in our lives?

Loved the video. Especially the final shot....

My husband takes photos of tombstones of his ancestors/relatives.

My third child was going to be named "Stephanie" until one day we were walking in the cemetery in Oregon and looking at the old family plot. My husband pointed to two tombstones and said "Rebecca Ellen" - and we never looked back.

The same cemetery has a tiny, tiny little tombstone in another section, the kind that is flush with the ground and all it says is "Our Baby Daughter" and the birthdate. It was my birthday in 1957. It sort of hit me in a way I can't describe to think that this baby would be my age today had she lived.

I leave a flower on the grave when we visit.

I always get a little chill when I see a gravestone for someone born the same time or after me and died. There is one near my brother's grave for a woman born born 1965 who died in 96 or so. It says "Beloved Wife, Mother, Daughter, Sister, Aunt .." for some reason it gets me.
